At a time when national heroes are falling from grace as steroid use is the topic at the fore of the collective sports world, the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed that all of the athletes tested at the Ultimate Fighting Championships’ Dec. 29 event have come back clean, both in testing involving performance enhancing drugs (such as steroids) and drugs of abuse (such as marijuana or cocaine).
According to the commission’s executive director Keith Kizer, “The NSAC tested Georges St. Pierre, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Lyoto Machida, Sokoudjou, Rich Clementi, Melvin Guillard, Manny Gamburyan, Dean Lister, Jordan Radev, and Mark Bocek.”
St. Pierre defeated Hughes in the main event of UFC 79, earning the interim welterweight champion designation and a shot at Matt Serra on April 19 in Canada. In the night’s co-main event, Liddell defeated Silva in a battle that had been years in the making.
Kizer also confirmed that all of the athletes on a privately held show at the Riviera Hotel & Casino on Jan. 8 were cleared of performance enhancing substances.
“All the steroid tests are back for the Jan. 8 show and they were all negative.”
Fighters tested on that show included Jesse Forbes, Victor Moreno, Jacob McClintock, Chris Kennedy, Robert Scott, and Steve Steinbeiss. Test results for drugs of abuse were still pending for the Jan. 8 fighters.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell’s book, “ICEMAN: My Fighting Life” hits bookstores Jan. 29.
“I’ve been working on it for a while, since back in May (2007),” said Liddell. “It comes out at the end of the month.”
“They came to me and talked about it and I got someone to help me write it,” he told MMAWeekly. “It talks a lot about different stuff. It’s the story of my life. It covers my whole life.”
The 320-page book, co-authored by Liddell and Chad Millman, chronicles the life of the 38-year-old fighter from childhood through mixed martial arts super stardom with “never before seen” photos.
Liddell’s not the only former champion to author his life’s story. Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes recently published “Made in America: The Most Dominant Champion in UFC History.” Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz’ book, “This Is Gonna Hurt: The Life of a UFC Champion” is expected to be released in the coming months.
ICEMAN: My Fighting Life is available at Amazon.com or MMAJacked.com. The book can be pre-ordered and purchased for $17.13 instead of the regular price of $25.95 for a limited time.
On Jan. 31, Liddell will be at The Events Center Bar inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to sign copies.
